General Information

  • This an OPT-IN SUMMER PROGRAM for students
  • This program takes place at home, summer school a community education facility, daycare or other learning places
  • Students spend time on activities that maintain or improve their health and achievement
  • Health categories include: fitness and nutrition
  • Achievment categories include: read books, write, workbooks, school assigned work, educational games, go on educational outings, visit safe educational internet sites, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) activities
  • To earn one OSP, students finishing grades K-1 spend 15 minutes, grades 2-3 spend 20 minutes and grades 4 and up spend 30 minutes
  • Parents submit OSPs unless summer school or community education staff do this component at their facility
  • Parents go on-line to report OSPs
  • For every 10 (ten) OSPs, a student will be able to have one slip entered into a drawing. There are drawings each other week during the summer and a final one for grades K-3 and grade 4 and above students who solve the missing gettysburg address mystery
  • All winning entries are posted on-line and prizes are sent to schools for distribution in the fall
  • All students who participate will receive a certificate
